Welcome to my midweek guest, the lovely and talented Shari Elder.
(and check this cover out)

Hi, I’m thrilled to be visiting Raven’s blog today to share ten things about Gold Captain, the hero of my recently released science fiction romance, The Scent of Memory, Green Rising Book 2.
Gold Captain or Cap is the hero of my recently released science fiction romance, The Scent of Memory.  He is a cyborg, although not by choice.  He was born Aren Dougherty on the planet Nordika.  The story of how he became a cyborg provides a few spoilers so I’ll keep that to myself, for now.  When he became a cyborg, all his memories were wiped. Consequently, Cap has to relearn a number of these things about himself.

  1. He was an artist who worked in charcoal and watercolor, a talent he lost when he became a cyborg.
  2. He is an introvert, preferring to watch and reflect, before acting.
  3. He is a stealth cyborg which he means he has extra programming that allows him to sneak around without being seen.
  4. Prior to becoming a cyborg, Cap learned a lot about computer programming from Marisol. As a result, he was able to clandestinely add to his stealth coding to protect himself and his squad and used it get them out of a few jams.
  5. He has a quiet sense of humor, which he manages to retain as a cyborg.
  6. Aren became a mining engineer because mining jobs were the most plentiful on Nordika, his home planet, and artists did not earn enough to survive.
  7. Aren loved Bantish Root Tea and when he was fully human, drank it morning, noon and night. It is highly caffeinated, and gave him a bit of a buzz, which he found helpful for his art.
  8. Aren believed a gift should always contain a part of yourself for it to mean something. His gifts were always his drawings.
  9. Aren loved his mush dog team but was not enamored of competitively mush racing. He was drawn into the sport originally to compete with his best friend, then stayed in it because it was something he and Marisol did together in the couples mush event.
  10. His favorite mush dog was named Rogue. She was white, wolf-sized, and had mesmerizing blue eyes. He always said if a human could fall in love with a dog, he would fall in love with Rogue.

BLURB
Twelve years ago, Marisol lost Aren. Now he’s back – pointing a gun at her head and treating her like a stranger.

Rebel hacker, Marisol Martinez, never thought volunteering to keep the hospital safe from cyborgs would lead her back to the man sabotage ripped from her arms. The man she swore to avenge by any means possible.

For over a decade, Cap protected the cyborgs under his command from every danger. Until he meets an insurgent, whose scent wreaks havoc on his control. She calls him Aren and insists she knows him. But she’s wrong. He has no past, no present, no future – only orders he’s programmed to complete.

Forced together, Marisol and Cap can’t resist the passion that keeps building between them.  With time running out, Marisol must use her computer skills to restore Aren’s memories or Cap will kill all subversives on the planet – starting with her.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hello, I’m Shari. By day, I crawl out of bed, mainline coffee, walk the dog, get my kid to class, and save cities within the four walls of my office. Usually by email.
At night, the other Shari emerges.  With a glass of wine by side, I curl up on the couch with my computer nestled in my lap and let my imagination play until stories take shape.  I also periodically check on my teen-ager, hiding out in the bedroom. Once I’ve reassured myself she’s not plotting world domination, I pull out my alter ego, who definitely is.  As my alter ego, I save cities in a cape and spangled tights, wander space and time on a surfboard, fly over the Himalayas on feathered wings, make six-toed footprints in indigo talc snow on the sixth planet in the Andromeda galaxy or eavesdrop on Olympian gods while pretending to whip up a bowl of ambrosia.

In all these wondrous worlds, romance and passion blossom. I can't resist a happy ending. And I am particularly prone to writing happy endings for those who have given up on ever getting one.

Fabulous Friday  Featuring Karin Baine

Today I'm lucky enough to have the fabulous Karin Baine with me, and
One Night with her Italian Doc

Picture

A wee introduction about me before I share news of my latest release with you. My name is Karin Baine and I write medical romance for Harlequin Mills & Boon. Words I thought I’d never be able to say but which fill me with pride every time I do. I’ve wanted to write for Mills & Boon for as long as I can remember.

My dream finally came true six years ago when they launched their ‘So You Think You Can Write?’, competition. I was shortlisted in the top ten and though I didn’t win, I got to work with a wonderful editor to polish my manuscript until it was ready for publication.

Since then I’ve written seventeen medical romances. I’m perhaps not your typical medical author in that most of my stories take place outside of the traditional hospital setting. I’ve written about ice hockey players, princesses and burlesque dancers and taken my stories all around the world.

I’m constantly asked about what makes Mills & Boon romances so popular and I think it’s because they offer such escapism and of course, that all-important happy ending. Something we need now more than ever.

My latest release, ‘One Night with Her Italian Doc’, takes place on a cruise around the Mediterranean. I was concerned about how it would be received in the current climate but readers have told me how much they’ve loved travelling with my characters to sunnier climes. It’s definitely an escape from real life at the minute!

Blurb

One hot summer night together…
… that just isn’t enough!
A Mediterranean cruise is exactly what nurse Sophie Blythe needs. It’s the perfect opportunity to re-discover the free-spirited woman she once was, before she met her cheating ex. And ship doctor Luciano Montavano could be the perfect fling…Gorgeous yet guarded, the irresistible Italian isn’t interested in settling down any more than she is. Until one night of passionate abandon forces them to acknowledge that they might both want more…

Hand in hand, Luciano and Sophie stood by the shore as the crystal-clear waves lapped gently nearby.
‘I’ve had a lovely day, Luciano.’ Sophie’s tender voice drew his gaze from their intertwined fingers to her soft lips.
‘Me too.’ Standing here with her, nothing else existed. It was a memory no one else would ever share. There was only one more thing that would make it perfect. Something he’d thought he’d never want to do again. Yet the adoration he saw in her eyes, and the slight tilt of her chin, was everything he needed to be sure what he was feeling was right and real.
With a dip of his head he was able to meet her lips with his. He closed his eyes, sighing into the blissful sensation of the kiss—soft and tender, yet filled with so much potential for more. Kissing Sophie was a release from the tension he’d been holding inside for days, trying not to act on his natural instinct to do this. He’d found the peace for which his soul had been searching for so long.
With that, his whole body opened up to the possibility of loving again. She’d awakened the passion inside him he’d thought had died long ago.
He wanted her closer and placed his free hand at her waist, drawing her deeper into the kiss.
Sophie wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling their bodies close enough that her body heat was burning him up. Her mouth was scorching against his. That desire they’d mistaken for battling egos was burning fiercely. The need to immerse himself in her and block out the pain that had tormented him for so long was stronger than the need to breathe.

“Why do you pose out there?” He sipped the coffee. He wasn’t a fan, but he wasn’t going to make a big deal out of refusing to drink it.
“The money isn’t bad.” Stone shrugged. “It keeps me sustained and lets me buy the art supplies I need.”
“Art? You’re an artist?” He tamped down his excitement. He loved artists and Stone kept ticking the boxes of what he wanted. “What’s your medium?”
“To keep going with my personal cliché, I’m Stone Martin. I pose on the Strip for money and in my off time, I’m a sculptor. I work in clay and stone.” He smiled, albeit wobbly. “Crazy, huh?”
Zeus laughed. “You’re a sculptor?”
“I am.”
Boy, did he have a shock for Stone when he told him the truth. He liked him. The man was easy to talk to and handsome in the silver paint. Like a sculpture come to life. Except Stone hadn’t been cursed and he wasn’t truly stuck in a piece of art. He’d save this man and prove to them both that romance wasn’t dead—and neither was he.
Perfect.

The Gluten-Free Author's Guide to  store cupboard saviours

2/7/2021

As in what the heck can I make for lunch when the fridge isn't yielding anything that inspires me?
An onion, a leek, half a carrot and a tomato that had seen better days is lurking in my chill compartment, and the shopping click and collect is booked for tomorrow.
I'm trying not to have a stash of tins  stored away until I discover they are past their use by date and the lovely husband—who appears to have a cast iron stomach—insists they will be fine. Mind you he did let me bin the tin of tomato soup, so old it didn't even have a date on it. How long that had been hiding behind a box of lentils,  a jar of creamy cheese sauce (bleugh, I hate cheese) and three packets of gluten full stuffing mix, I daren't hazard a guess. Sufficient to say when he was out, I did a swift check and ditch session.
Which didn't help me with what was for lunch.
I improvised.
And made one of the nicest store cupboard soups we've had in ages and it was oh so easy.
Tomato and White Bean Soup.
I  sautéed half a large onion, added some garlic and oregano (because we both love oregano), bunged in a tin of chopped tomatoes, half a tin of white beans (I used the tin with the closest sell by date which happened to be cannellini beans) and a slug of water to make it less thick. Simmered it until it was all lovely and hot, then blitzed half of it to create a lovely creamy thick soup which as the lovely hubby said, 'still had some chunks in it'. you guessed it, he doesn't like creamy smooth soup.
I would have added a photo of it, but it's all gone.
Anyway, it was a nice change from my usual go to home made soups, lentil or mushroom.
The latter is only once the shoppings arrived though.

Happy Cooking

Love Raven   xxx

Well, hi, I seem to have found my way here, which is pretty amazing to be honest.

Why?
Well anyone who knows me know I'm not exactly very technically minded, but with the help of my lovely Techie guru,  Cherie, I think I've sorted it...
I say think because there's no promise it'll still be here when I press finish.
and on that point, I'm going to ignore the ominous looking sky, turn the heating up and make a cup of coffee.
If it's all still here when I look later, then, I'm up and running.
And ohhh do I have some fabulous guest lined up.
What this space... if it's still here
happy reading
