BLURB:
Bram Wilson has snagged his ideal internship at an exciting new app development company. The only downside? It’s unpaid. And like any recent graduate, he’s in debt up to his eyeballs.
Spencer Kemp, CEO of AppMedica, is thrilled to have just scored his first viral sensation. Not-so-thrilling is the extra cash he needs to find to keep developing his popular game while it’s hot. Of course, there’s always the money his grandmother willed him as a wedding gift. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a boyfriend, never mind a husband.
Surely a solution can’t be that hard to find.⠀

EXCERPT:
“Can I ask you something?” Bram asked as the waitress left to fill their order.
“Sure.”
“Am I fired?”
The question threw Spencer for a loop. “F—no. Why would you think that?”
“I kissed you.” His voice was barely above a whisper. “Remember?”
Oh, he remembered. Vividly. He couldn’t remember the last time someone had taken him so completely off guard. He’d spent more time than he’d care to admit reliving the moment. But it sure as hell wasn’t a fireable offense. Okay, technically, it could have been. But in this case it had cemented his decision to go ahead with his ridiculous plan.
“No, Bram. You’re definitely not fired.”
Bram’s posture relaxed somewhat. Then he leaned forward and asked, “So what are we doing here, then?”
“Hang on a minute. You thought you were about to be fired and you came along anyway?”
“I mean, yeah. If you were going to fire me, you could have done it anywhere. At least this way, it wouldn’t have been in front of everyone at work.”
“Well, you can rest assured. Nobody is getting fired.”
As their waitress set their drinks down, they stared at each other intently. Neither man spoke until they both thanked her without breaking eye contact.
“So?” Bram prompted. “What did you want to talk about?”
After hesitating briefly, Spencer bit the bullet and dove right in. “I need to get married.”
Bram furrowed his brow and took a hearty swallow of wine. “You’ve lost me.”
“I need to get married and want to make you a proposal,” Spencer explained. “A business proposal,” he quickly added.
“I’m sorry, what?”
Spencer removed the contract from its folder, then slid it across the table toward Bram.
“My grandmother was a hateful old woman,” he began to explain. “And in order to meet the requirements put on the money she gifted me in her will, I have to show proof of marriage to her lawyers.”
“And you want me to…” Bram trailed off as he picked up the papers.
“You need help paying off a big chunk of student debt,” Spencer continued. “And I need the money to make a sizeable and timely investment in AppMedica. So what I’m proposing is we get married. In return for you agreeing to do this, I use a portion of the money to pay off your loans.”
“Get married.” Bram sounded out the phrase like it was in a foreign language. “Are you serious?”
“Quite,” Spencer answered. “Nothing as far as our respective lives go has to change. We wouldn’t have to live together or be a couple or anything like that. It would simply be a legal document we would both be signing.”
Bram was silent.
“I don’t expect you to give me an answer right away,” Spencer added.
Bram started to speak, then closed his mouth.
“Are you okay?” Spencer asked.
“I’ll be honest. I have a million things I want to say, but they all seem to want to come out as what the fuck.”
“Fair.”
“I mean. What the fuck?” Bram finished his wine in one swallow. “This is really … what the fuck.”

Beth came visiting... Molly's Affaire De Coeur

Beth and I had a chat about her fabulous book...“Molly’s Affaire de Coeur”

Hi Beth, thanks for dropping in. What book are you going to tell us about today?
Molly’s Affaire de Coeur…it’s a menage story that takes place in France. It had been previously published under a different title, but I took back the rights to make it better. I’ve grown as a writer, so I was glad to have the chance to rework some of the parts.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
I lived in Paris for 4 months and explored the city every day. It was the adventure of a lifetime. I used all that experience to write Molly’s AdC. That’s why, in some scenes, it’s a lot of detailed exposition.

How much real life do you put into or influences in this book? A lot. Even down to the guy in the shower that Molly watches. When I moved into my apartment in Paris, the living room window looked down into my downstairs neighbour’s bathroom. I accidentally witnessed him showering one night, and that sparked an idea which eventually led to this story.

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend they start with and why?
I would say it depends on the genre you wish to read, because I’ve got a foot in a lot of them. Some of my favourites are Dreamland, When Lightening Strikes, Invincible…this one. Really, everyone should check out my bookography (I just made that word up). (I love it and have made a note—Raven)

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you. I used to work for a film and tv editing company, who used to do the nomination packages for the Emmy’s and Oscars. I was able to attend the Emmy’s one year, wearing a beautiful dress and walking the red carpet. I got to see a lot of stars, including Jack Lemmon before he died. It was a fun time in my life, going to a few “Hollywood” parties and meeting celebrities. I’m glad I had the experience.

BLURB:
Everyone in her hometown knows that Molly Evain is shy.  As a librarian she relates to books better than to humans.  Quiet, reserved, demur...all words people use to describe her, including her boyfriend.  But when he pops the big question, Molly realizes she doesn't want to be those adjectives anymore.  What she doesn't know is if she's able to change since she suffers from panic attacks and agoraphobia.  In order to give herself time before answering, she decides to take an impromptu vacation to Paris.

A chance encounter puts her in the path of not one, but two, handsome men.  Regan Rookery is a hockey heartthrob, on vacation to find relaxation and anonymity in Europe.  Shane Gordon is the man she is having a voyeuristic romance with through her hotel window.  When she realizes both men are best friends and she’s whisked to the French countryside, Regan and Shane come to terms that they are both falling for the same girl.

But their lives are disrupted by the media attention of their relationship and Molly doesn’t know if she’s strong enough to handle the attention and publicity.  Does she run away, knowing that if she does, she could lose both men she’s come to love?

MY SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:

I began reading my mom’s Harlequin Presents in the fifth grade, and from the first story I knew I wanted to write romance novels. I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers.  I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box.  I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love. Blurb:
J.R. Redding saves ailing companies, and if his relationships with his personal assistants raise eyebrows, whatever works. He steps in to save Alanna Giles’s company and get closer to the beautiful blonde. Her father agrees that Alanna fill the position of his P.A.—not that she’s to assume the submissive role J.R. demands—yet.

Alanna must recover the money her father stole and return it to the company—without alerting J.R. She knows what his assistants provide, but if she refuses, can she ensure her little sister is financially secure? She takes the position, leading J.R. to believe she’s agreeable—to everything.

Truth will out, and J.R. fires Alanna, as he can’t abide liars, though she hasn’t been lying to him for some time. She loves him.

As she leaves, tragedy strikes, and J.R. faces the fact he dismissed the woman he loves. Do his skills extend to saving her?

Teaser Excerpt:
He didn’t bother to hide his displeasure this time, not even minimally. “Don’t go behind my back again. I don’t disrespect contracts. If you and I turned out to be incompatible, it wouldn’t have reflected on our preliminary payout figure.”
Inclining her head, she agreed. “I won’t. I apologize. I forgot my place.”
She ignored his comment about contracts because he was a despicable man even to remind her. The traitorous tinges of arousal hadn’t totally faded before his ire, and she found that far more disconcerting. His hard strength called to her, even as she was wary of it.
“Don’t forget it again. You won’t like the consequences. And no, you won’t be fired. I have other ways of dealing with disloyal employees.”
It was on the tip of her tongue to inquire if he was required to deal with large numbers of them. “I won’t forget, Mr. Redding.”
“Justin or JR.”
“No. You’re my boss.”
“And more, Alanna.” His tone was reasonable if the flaring in his eyes wasn’t.
Feeling her face flush, she lifted her head and stared him down. “Having sex with you doesn’t change facts, Mr. Redding.”
“Let’s get things out in the open, sweetheart. You appear to be carrying a huge chip on your shoulder. You agreed verbally. And you read the contract and agreed to it. You wanted this.”
“I know better than to waste my energy in a futile battle.”
JR barked a huff of laughter. “You could have refused and quit. Found a position elsewhere. One you wouldn’t have found so distasteful.”
“Not an option.”
“Explain.”
Oh, no. She wasn’t going there. “I don’t have to explain myself, Mr. Redding. I agreed to be your PA, and all that entails from your … perspective, for the next six months or until my father is recovered enough to take over. We’ll ensure the viability of the company. What else matters?”
“I don’t force women.”
That bold statement made her head swim. The man was indeed a piece of work. A gorgeous, hot piece of work who appeared to believe that having his personal assistants sign a contract giving him not only their job skills but total access to their bodies with a nondisclosure agreement attached wasn’t forcing women.
But then, the other women before her hadn’t likely felt forced, and he was simply protecting himself from a lawsuit. With a hitch in her chest, she again wondered how many of them moved on or were moved on with their hearts broken. Not that there was any worry for her in that regard. She might be drawn to him physically, but she didn’t like him—or trust him.
“I signed the contract. You won’t be forcing me,” she repeated, suddenly struck with the fear he’d release her and pack it in himself. And the company would fail without his guidance, and her sister would suffer and--
“Jesus, Alanna! What is it with you? Do you have some kind of condition going on that you blank out?”
“What?” She pulled herself out of the anxious spiral. She had to convince him! “No, I’m fine. And you won’t have to force me. I want to do this. I do. I … I’ve found you attractive from the beginning as you probably noticed, and, well, I decided to quit fighting it.”
“Ah… Good. Well, one last thing. If I do anything to you or ask you to do something you absolutely cannot abide, you’re to say the word breakpoint.”
He was talking about a safeword. Holy shit. Oh, God. She tried to breathe evenly but knew the rapid rise and fall of her chest was giving her away.
“Tell me what you’re thinking.” He was obviously brooking no argument and never had he looked so arrogant and determined.
“The contract said submissive. I stroked it out, and you initialed it. I’m not interested in BDSM.”
“And we aren’t entering into such a formal relationship, I assure you. But I am demanding sexually, and I sense something in you that has me believing you’ll meet my needs.” He smiled again, and her belly lurched. “I’m only ensuring you won’t be pushed too far.”
She hardly knew this man. They’d struck sparks each and every time they’d met, and she hadn’t cared to get to know him better, especially when he was taking over and making her uncertain about the future.
And when she’d said she didn’t like him, it was true. He was difficult to like because he embodied every male quality she’d decided to dislike and avoid.
She wanted a kind, gentle man, one who respected her wishes and treated her sweetly. She hadn’t found that fictional individual, and it wasn’t likely she would, considering the cutthroat nature of the business she worked in and its demands on her time, let alone her commitment to Lonnie.
But that didn’t mean she ever wanted to like Justin Redding. So the compatibility he thought he’d picked up on was chemistry, something she’d already acknowledged.
“Suffice it to say I’ll hold up my end of the bargain. You won’t have to force me.”
“I didn’t mean to imply I’d have to force your body, Alanna. I have considerable confidence in my sexual expertise. But I won’t force you to submit to me. You’ll come to that on your own.”
Fat chance. “When would you like to get started? I’ll fetch my laptop.”
“No need. We’ll be brainstorming for now. And we’ll start immediately. Strip.”
Her movement to rise from her chair was arrested. Her brain turned the command over in her head. She cautiously looked his way.
He stared back, waiting, not moving a muscle. She had agreed to this, had willingly consented to his demands. She’d made her choice, no matter how she might want to make it his fault.
“Did you ask me to strip?” She thought she might ask, just in case…
“I told you.”

Time to find out everything to give you the urge to read The Fall that Kills
Picture
Picture
Blurb:
Rayne St. Cyr, Marquess of Seaford, is resigned to marry and produce heirs. He then learns his bride is partaking of a Season, arranged by her father, the Baron, to force his hand. His honor impugned, the secret behind the arranged marriage additionally fuels his ire.
Believing Lady Emma to be no different than her odious father, St. Cyr hatches a nefarious plan: quickly marry and seclude her, visiting only to beget those heirs.
Lady Emma Newmark is kind and caring, though at the mercy of her widowed father. Now, rushed into marriage, isolated in a ruined castle with a man who exudes contempt—yet draws her all the same—she despairs.
Spurned and humiliated, left with servants who apparently plot her demise, she runs away, preferring to choose her fate.
Rayne comes to his senses and saves her, but can a new plan gain her forgiveness—and love?

Excerpt:
Hysteria nibbled around the edges of her current forced calm.
“My lady.”
There it was, her name forgotten. Again. Good, the more formal, the better.
“Emma.”
She started. He was prescient. She was doomed. Cautiously looking his way, she said, “My lord?”
He was staring, his amber eyes darkened, his chin propped on steepled fingers, and she couldn’t look away. He said, “When we are alone, I’d prefer you call me Rayne. I realize I hadn’t given you leave before, just as I now presume to call you Emma, but—”
She was shaking her head, seemingly unable to stop the motion. Was she to have given permission first? Was that what he was inferring? That she was at fault? Again? Exhaustion swatted at her like a horse’s tail on a fly.
Then some imp from childhood overtook her, and she spoke without censoring herself, her speech taking on a life of its own, forgetting her vulnerability. “Not once did you indicate a need for familiarity, St. Cyr. Nor did you invite it. Your reserve, your very formality, a certain rudeness, to be frank, clarified our respective roles. You’d already judged me and held me to my father’s standards. You hate me! Hold me in contempt! And brought me here where I would be forgotten until you … until you could send word to … do away with me. All that nonsense about heirs, seducing me—it was all prevarication and, and lust. When all I wanted, all I coveted, was a child. Ch … children. And what I nearly did…”
Aware her voice had risen and then broken on the last of her tirade, Emma caught up a patched napkin and pressed it to her mouth, aghast. The broth scalded up her throat, and she choked, watching her husband’s face. The bronzed skin was ashen, and what could only be horror painted lines and shadows across his handsome features.
He shoved to his feet, and she mirrored him, somehow avoiding his grasp, her feet screaming with pain but not deterring her in a headlong rush to somewhere, anywhere. There was no need for further games and fake sensibilities now. She’d doomed herself, and terror gave her wings.
It wasn’t enough. St. Cyr’s longer legs cut the distance, and he swept her up, ignoring her pitiful struggles, and carried her up the stairs. Mrs. Murrow’s and Floyd’s startled visages flitted across her peripheral vision, and then she swooned.

LB Meaning: Love's Bloom was a fabulous collection call to be included in. I loved penning a story about second chances and new love. Not to mention some gardening and a nosy old lady! It was also my first time playing with alternating POV which was fun. I'm very happy with how it turned out - and to be in such great author company!

Wonderful Wednesday Author. Shari Elder chats about  the ten things about her latest hero, Gold Captain.

Welcome to my midweek guest, the lovely and talented Shari Elder.
(and check this cover out)

Hi, I’m thrilled to be visiting Raven’s blog today to share ten things about Gold Captain, the hero of my recently released science fiction romance, The Scent of Memory, Green Rising Book 2.
Gold Captain or Cap is the hero of my recently released science fiction romance, The Scent of Memory.  He is a cyborg, although not by choice.  He was born Aren Dougherty on the planet Nordika.  The story of how he became a cyborg provides a few spoilers so I’ll keep that to myself, for now.  When he became a cyborg, all his memories were wiped. Consequently, Cap has to relearn a number of these things about himself.

  1. He was an artist who worked in charcoal and watercolor, a talent he lost when he became a cyborg.
  2. He is an introvert, preferring to watch and reflect, before acting.
  3. He is a stealth cyborg which he means he has extra programming that allows him to sneak around without being seen.
  4. Prior to becoming a cyborg, Cap learned a lot about computer programming from Marisol. As a result, he was able to clandestinely add to his stealth coding to protect himself and his squad and used it get them out of a few jams.
  5. He has a quiet sense of humor, which he manages to retain as a cyborg.
  6. Aren became a mining engineer because mining jobs were the most plentiful on Nordika, his home planet, and artists did not earn enough to survive.
  7. Aren loved Bantish Root Tea and when he was fully human, drank it morning, noon and night. It is highly caffeinated, and gave him a bit of a buzz, which he found helpful for his art.
  8. Aren believed a gift should always contain a part of yourself for it to mean something. His gifts were always his drawings.
  9. Aren loved his mush dog team but was not enamored of competitively mush racing. He was drawn into the sport originally to compete with his best friend, then stayed in it because it was something he and Marisol did together in the couples mush event.
  10. His favorite mush dog was named Rogue. She was white, wolf-sized, and had mesmerizing blue eyes. He always said if a human could fall in love with a dog, he would fall in love with Rogue.

BLURB
Twelve years ago, Marisol lost Aren. Now he’s back – pointing a gun at her head and treating her like a stranger.

Rebel hacker, Marisol Martinez, never thought volunteering to keep the hospital safe from cyborgs would lead her back to the man sabotage ripped from her arms. The man she swore to avenge by any means possible.

For over a decade, Cap protected the cyborgs under his command from every danger. Until he meets an insurgent, whose scent wreaks havoc on his control. She calls him Aren and insists she knows him. But she’s wrong. He has no past, no present, no future – only orders he’s programmed to complete.

Forced together, Marisol and Cap can’t resist the passion that keeps building between them.  With time running out, Marisol must use her computer skills to restore Aren’s memories or Cap will kill all subversives on the planet – starting with her.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hello, I’m Shari. By day, I crawl out of bed, mainline coffee, walk the dog, get my kid to class, and save cities within the four walls of my office. Usually by email.
At night, the other Shari emerges.  With a glass of wine by side, I curl up on the couch with my computer nestled in my lap and let my imagination play until stories take shape.  I also periodically check on my teen-ager, hiding out in the bedroom. Once I’ve reassured myself she’s not plotting world domination, I pull out my alter ego, who definitely is.  As my alter ego, I save cities in a cape and spangled tights, wander space and time on a surfboard, fly over the Himalayas on feathered wings, make six-toed footprints in indigo talc snow on the sixth planet in the Andromeda galaxy or eavesdrop on Olympian gods while pretending to whip up a bowl of ambrosia.

In all these wondrous worlds, romance and passion blossom. I can't resist a happy ending. And I am particularly prone to writing happy endings for those who have given up on ever getting one.

Fabulous Friday  Featuring Karin Baine

2/12/2021

Today I'm lucky enough to have the fabulous Karin Baine with me, and
One Night with her Italian Doc

Picture

A wee introduction about me before I share news of my latest release with you. My name is Karin Baine and I write medical romance for Harlequin Mills & Boon. Words I thought I’d never be able to say but which fill me with pride every time I do. I’ve wanted to write for Mills & Boon for as long as I can remember.

My dream finally came true six years ago when they launched their ‘So You Think You Can Write?’, competition. I was shortlisted in the top ten and though I didn’t win, I got to work with a wonderful editor to polish my manuscript until it was ready for publication.

Since then I’ve written seventeen medical romances. I’m perhaps not your typical medical author in that most of my stories take place outside of the traditional hospital setting. I’ve written about ice hockey players, princesses and burlesque dancers and taken my stories all around the world.

I’m constantly asked about what makes Mills & Boon romances so popular and I think it’s because they offer such escapism and of course, that all-important happy ending. Something we need now more than ever.

My latest release, ‘One Night with Her Italian Doc’, takes place on a cruise around the Mediterranean. I was concerned about how it would be received in the current climate but readers have told me how much they’ve loved travelling with my characters to sunnier climes. It’s definitely an escape from real life at the minute!

Blurb

One hot summer night together…
… that just isn’t enough!
A Mediterranean cruise is exactly what nurse Sophie Blythe needs. It’s the perfect opportunity to re-discover the free-spirited woman she once was, before she met her cheating ex. And ship doctor Luciano Montavano could be the perfect fling…Gorgeous yet guarded, the irresistible Italian isn’t interested in settling down any more than she is. Until one night of passionate abandon forces them to acknowledge that they might both want more…

Hand in hand, Luciano and Sophie stood by the shore as the crystal-clear waves lapped gently nearby.
‘I’ve had a lovely day, Luciano.’ Sophie’s tender voice drew his gaze from their intertwined fingers to her soft lips.
‘Me too.’ Standing here with her, nothing else existed. It was a memory no one else would ever share. There was only one more thing that would make it perfect. Something he’d thought he’d never want to do again. Yet the adoration he saw in her eyes, and the slight tilt of her chin, was everything he needed to be sure what he was feeling was right and real.
With a dip of his head he was able to meet her lips with his. He closed his eyes, sighing into the blissful sensation of the kiss—soft and tender, yet filled with so much potential for more. Kissing Sophie was a release from the tension he’d been holding inside for days, trying not to act on his natural instinct to do this. He’d found the peace for which his soul had been searching for so long.
With that, his whole body opened up to the possibility of loving again. She’d awakened the passion inside him he’d thought had died long ago.
He wanted her closer and placed his free hand at her waist, drawing her deeper into the kiss.
Sophie wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling their bodies close enough that her body heat was burning him up. Her mouth was scorching against his. That desire they’d mistaken for battling egos was burning fiercely. The need to immerse himself in her and block out the pain that had tormented him for so long was stronger than the need to breathe.

“Why do you pose out there?” He sipped the coffee. He wasn’t a fan, but he wasn’t going to make a big deal out of refusing to drink it.
“The money isn’t bad.” Stone shrugged. “It keeps me sustained and lets me buy the art supplies I need.”
“Art? You’re an artist?” He tamped down his excitement. He loved artists and Stone kept ticking the boxes of what he wanted. “What’s your medium?”
“To keep going with my personal cliché, I’m Stone Martin. I pose on the Strip for money and in my off time, I’m a sculptor. I work in clay and stone.” He smiled, albeit wobbly. “Crazy, huh?”
Zeus laughed. “You’re a sculptor?”
“I am.”
Boy, did he have a shock for Stone when he told him the truth. He liked him. The man was easy to talk to and handsome in the silver paint. Like a sculpture come to life. Except Stone hadn’t been cursed and he wasn’t truly stuck in a piece of art. He’d save this man and prove to them both that romance wasn’t dead—and neither was he.
Perfect.

The Gluten-Free Author's Guide to  store cupboard saviours

As in what the heck can I make for lunch when the fridge isn't yielding anything that inspires me?
An onion, a leek, half a carrot and a tomato that had seen better days is lurking in my chill compartment, and the shopping click and collect is booked for tomorrow.
I'm trying not to have a stash of tins  stored away until I discover they are past their use by date and the lovely husband—who appears to have a cast iron stomach—insists they will be fine. Mind you he did let me bin the tin of tomato soup, so old it didn't even have a date on it. How long that had been hiding behind a box of lentils,  a jar of creamy cheese sauce (bleugh, I hate cheese) and three packets of gluten full stuffing mix, I daren't hazard a guess. Sufficient to say when he was out, I did a swift check and ditch session.
Which didn't help me with what was for lunch.
I improvised.
And made one of the nicest store cupboard soups we've had in ages and it was oh so easy.
Tomato and White Bean Soup.
I  sautéed half a large onion, added some garlic and oregano (because we both love oregano), bunged in a tin of chopped tomatoes, half a tin of white beans (I used the tin with the closest sell by date which happened to be cannellini beans) and a slug of water to make it less thick. Simmered it until it was all lovely and hot, then blitzed half of it to create a lovely creamy thick soup which as the lovely hubby said, 'still had some chunks in it'. you guessed it, he doesn't like creamy smooth soup.
I would have added a photo of it, but it's all gone.
Anyway, it was a nice change from my usual go to home made soups, lentil or mushroom.
The latter is only once the shoppings arrived though.

Happy Cooking

Well, hi, I seem to have found my way here, which is pretty amazing to be honest.

Why?
Well anyone who knows me know I'm not exactly very technically minded, but with the help of my lovely Techie guru,  Cherie, I think I've sorted it...
I say think because there's no promise it'll still be here when I press finish.
and on that point, I'm going to ignore the ominous looking sky, turn the heating up and make a cup of coffee.
If it's all still here when I look later, then, I'm up and running.
And ohhh do I have some fabulous guest lined up.
What this space... if it's still here
happy reading
